Dr. Goldie Byrd, PhD professor of social sciences and health policy and director of the Maya Angelou Center for Health Equity and a trailblazer in successfully including African Americans in clinical research.
A noted professor and researcher, when we interviewed Dr. Byrd for our documentary In Our Right Mind she talked about the Center for Outreach in Alzheimer’s, Aging and Community Health (COAACH) which she created at North Carolina A&T University with a focus on education and training, health equity research and outreach and community engagement.
Currently, Dr. Byrd is a collaborator on a $46 million study, funded by the National Institute of Aging, that will examine the genetics of Alzheimer’s disease in people of Hispanic and African ancestry to see what biomarkers might predict the disease.
